Continental is looking for an AI Platform Engineer to operate and evolve its enterprise AI-powered document search and Q&A platform deployed on Azure.

Role overview:

At Continental Tires, analytical excellence is an integral part of processes that create business value. Tire IT works with domain experts from business units to identify opportunities that can be supported and solved through Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics.

As an AI Platform Engineer, you will work as part of a global Data Science team, contributing from the Data Science Hub in Portugal and collaborating closely with colleagues across the globe.

Main responsibilities:

• Operate, monitor and continuously improve the enterprise AI platform across development, QA and production environments;
• Maintain and extend the platform’s three containerized services: FastAPI backend, Streamlit frontend and APScheduler-based document processing worker;
• Manage Azure infrastructure using Terraform, including App Service, Azure AI Search, Azure OpenAI deployments, Blob Storage, PostgreSQL, Redis and Key Vault;
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions for automated container builds, infrastructure deployments, LLM evaluation runs and release management;
• Onboard new AI use cases and workspaces by managing the datasource provisioning workflow from configuration to Azure resource creation;
• Develop and operate document scraping and processing pipelines that ingest content from SharePoint, internal wikis and web portals into Azure AI Search;
• Support LLM quality assurance by maintaining the automated evaluation pipeline and monitoring model behavior through observability tooling;
• Collaborate with Data Scientists to integrate new models and agents into the platform’s agentic query pipeline.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science or similar studies;
• Reliable team player with a structured and self-organized working style;
• Minimum of 2 years of IT or industry experience in a DevOps, MLOps or platform engineering role;
• Solid experience with Python application development;
• Experience with containerization using Docker, including multi-stage build patterns and container image registries;
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, including App Service, Blob Storage, AI Search, Azure OpenAI and Microsoft Foundry;
• Good knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform;
• Good knowledge of CI/CD processes and hands-on experience with GitHub Actions or comparable tooling;
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with Data Scientists, business stakeholders and IT teams;
• Proficient written and spoken English;
• Experience working in a multinational company is a plus.

Main responsibilities:

• Create designs for software applications that meet specified requirements;
• Analyze requirements, identify appropriate architectural patterns and establish development blueprints;
• Write code to implement software applications based on the defined design;
• Use appropriate programming languages, frameworks and libraries to build scalable and functional applications;
• Conduct tests to ensure the functionality, reliability and quality of software applications;
• Develop and execute test cases, perform testing and analyze test results;
• Identify and resolve software defects and issues through error log analysis, debugging tools and troubleshooting techniques;
• Create technical documentation, user guides and API documentation;
• Identify root causes and apply problem-solving techniques to resolve software issues and improve efficiency;
• Work closely with the team, project managers and business analysts to understand requirements and clarify objectives;
• Keep up to date with industry and best practice trends, using insights to implement new processes and initiatives;
• Actively engage in and apply development methodologies to support successful delivery and continuous improvement.

Hard skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field;
• Master’s degree, valued;
• 5+ years of experience in software development, with strong focus on backend technologies and architecture;
• Experience in the payments or financial services industry, preferred;
• Proficiency in Java, preferably versions 17 or 21, with Java 21 preferred;
• Hands-on experience developing scalable applications;
• Knowledge of Spring Boot Framework, versions 3.4.x or 3.5;
• Good understanding of Angular 21 or close versions;
• Knowledge of Kafka and Spring Batch;
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as OpenShift, AWS or Azure;
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes;
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architecture;
• Knowledge of best practices in software development;
• Experience with Agile methodologies and project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence, preferred;
• Proficiency in English, minimum B2 level, mandatory;
• Proficiency in French, highly valued.
