The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for managing/supporting all aspects concerning the sourcing and use of production materials for the assigned commodities. The incumbent will lead and implement efforts in supplier selection and management, price, safety stock and lead-time negotiations, global supply base and technology roadmap development. This individual will also act as a subject expert for assigned commodities to continuously improve overall cost effectiveness.


  • Where appropriate, either lead or participate in collaborative Corporate, multi-region/plant/division, cross-functional teams to develop actionable sourcing opportunities, as well as manage the supply base
  • Understand and monitor current regional commodity market conditions/trends, developing technologies, supply chain capacity/ capability, product knowledge, customer requirements and supply/demand challenges
  • With Corporate Commodity Managers, facilitate the selection, development, and management of Strategic Suppliers to meet commodity cost and performance goals – Emphasis will be to identify cost targets for relevant technology and product roadmaps
  • Assist Commodity Managers in developing and implementing commodity management strategies including supplier assessments and rationalization, negotiation for best total cost of ownership, make vs. buy analyses, vendor managed inventories, inventory reduction programs, cycle time improvements, security of supply, continuous improvement, EDI, and procurement/engineering collaboration.
  • Develop, implement and manage low cost regional proposal activities
  • Establish a strong network and foster collaboration with customers, suppliers, key stakeholders, and category team members
  • Implement Corporate & Divisional initiatives to meet business goals/objectives
  • Establish, implement and report on actionable, measurable and achievable, time specific goals and objectives
  • Key driver of material cost reduction projects in alignment with business needs
  • Drives projects to reduce supply chain lead times by working with suppliers to implement lean activities within the supplier’s processes
  • Negotiate supplier lead times, safety stock levels, MOQ’s levels for his/her respective commodities
  • Key team player in supplier selection and in the development of the supply chain for new products
  • Responsible for inventory reduction
  • Travel approximately 25%


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Materials Management, or Technical Field required
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of commodity management experience in electrical and/or mechanical commodity sourcing
  • Must have a background in Supply Chain, Operations and/or Engineering
  • Global Commodity Management experience required
  • Strong overall technology usage skills, including but not limited to the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Must be able to drive multifunctional teams in the creation and implementation of complex supply chain and materials projects

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Master’s degree, CPM or CPIM preferred
  • Strong understanding of Sourcing and Sourcing related activities and demonstrated category expertise and negotiation skills
  • Ability to understand and implement lean manufacturing, pull systems and inventory reduction methods
  • Understanding of general finance and make/buy analysis
  • Understanding of Contractual Terms and Conditions and how to mitigate risk
  • Ability to interact/collaborate with upper management and within a team environment
  • Excellent analytic, problem solving, team building, project management, strategic planning, and change management skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
