This is a senior role within Oracle Retail Consulting’s [“ORC’s”] Enterprise Practice in EMEA, reporting directly to ORC’s Senior Director of Solution and Innovation. This role has responsibility for managing and developing the Solution and Innovation community, managing architects and controlling methodologies and compliance standards

This role carries a high-profile within the Oracle Retail Global Business Unit (RGBU) as managing the senior architects in the practice is pivotal, ensuring collateral and methodology is available, and liaising closely with Delivery and Capability. This role will carry a personal utilization target, requiring the Solution and Innovation Practice Director to contribute value-adding services to key accounts in support of their role and duties.

Solution and Innovation Practice Director for ORC EMEA

Key functional areas for the Solution and Innovation Practice Director are:

  • Reports to and assists the Senior Director for Solution and Innovation in managing the Practice, specifically the Architecture Delivery and Innovation activities
  • Recruitment for and development of the architect community for ORC EMEA
  • Works closely with the Delivery, Engagement and Supply functions to manage ongoing projects and determine methodology and practice improvements

Solution and Innovation Practice Director Responsibilities:

  • Managing a group of architects co-located and/or geographically dispersed
  • Providing leadership, direction and motivation to the architects
  • Deploying practice expertise in presales to ensure that solution components and assignments are well conceived and executed
  • Reviewing and approving bids and proposals; managing large and/or complex bids, and overseeing their transition from acceptance of proposal to project initiation
  • Supporting Project Managers to deliver projects as per revenue and cost targets, within given contingency bounds
  • Managing the performance of members of the Practice Team(s)
  • Recruiting, inducting, coaching and developing professional Consultants and Architects
  • Balancing the competency needs of the business with the individual aspirations of the professional Consultants
  • Analyzing and interpreting the likely demand for Practice skills in order to ensure appropriate availability of consulting resources
  • Promoting the current competence availability to the Sales and Engagement organizations
  • Staying on top of new developments, new approaches and new Oracle products in the Practice area, able to articulate their utility and benefits to position Oracle solutions vs competitor solutions
  • Creating and promoting a portfolio of Professional Consulting Services for the Practice area and preparing to roll out global offerings
  • Working with Resourcing and Demand to influence the allocation of practice resources to Projects
  • Working with Delivery and Engagement Organizations in order to balance the needs of the customers with the Practice’s ability to deliver consulting services
  • Communicating to the consultants the feedback obtained from the rest of the team

Solution and Innovation Practice Director Accountabilities:

  • Set objectives for, and review the performance of Architects, taking action to ensure targets are met and individuals are developed
  • Ensure scope and expectations for assets are properly defined, including quality and finance plans
  • Manage and allocate a training budget for the Practice
  • Generate and submit regular practice forecast data and practice performance data
  • Operate in line with Oracle’s HR policies and procedures e.g. Recruitment and Performance Management
  • Manage Recruitment and Attrition
  • Ensure that Practice Team members operate in line with Oracle Retail Consulting’s policies and procedures

Reporting Structure:

The functions reports to ORC Senior Director for Solution and Innovation. The Solution and Innovation Practice Director will need to work closely with ORC Delivery function, ORC Engagement and ORC Capability.

Personal Profile:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, technology or a related field

Experience:

  • At least 8 years’ experience in consulting
  • At least 8 years’ experience gained in the Retail industry
  • At least 4 years’ experience of Oracle Retail projects
  • Experience of Managing and developing people
  • Experience of managing projects in the Retail industry, either directly or in a material support role

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Account Management – understand the requirements to manage clients, projects and individual consultants.
  • Business development – ability to identify and help develop offers that will help secure or extend consulting engagements
  • Inter-personal skills – able to communicate with and influence peers, client representatives (including Senior Executives) and internal and external teams
  • People Management – Ability to communicate and motivate practice resources
  • Practical understanding of Retail Industry processes and working practices
  • Detailed understanding of Retail drivers and constraints
  • Fluent in English – it would be preferable, but not critical, that candidate could speak at least one other European language fluently

Detailed Description and Job Requirements:

This director position is responsible for managing business operations and resources of a given practice that can be defined by industry, service line, technology center, specialty area or region. Responsible for managing the three main pillars of a practice: people management, portfolio/delivery management and sales enablement. Has profit and loss responsibility or financial/expense management of practice.

Accountable for operational/financial metrics and overall business results of practice. Responsible for maintaining strategic direction, ensuring profitable growth of the practice, quality of consulting delivery, and maintaining customer referenceability. Develops strategy and plans to successfully implement operational policies and achieve business objectives. Accountable for managing and growing a significant revenue stream and customer base. Typically manages multiple first line managers and/or senior level individual contributors. Resolves staffing issue in complex engagements. May serve as advisor or project sponsor role for moderately complex engagements.

10+ years of experience relevant to this position including 5 years of consulting experience and 2 years of project management leadership experience. Direct line Management experience including project, people, customer, financial management preferred. Product, technology or industry expertise relevant to the practice focus. Ability to develop and maintain relationships at the executive level. Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. Ability to travel as needed.
