The Team:

We’re at the business end of one of the fastest growing companies in the world.

Our global Finance function is predominantly based in both Porto and London with a presence in all of our global regions. We have a team of over 50 people in in our Portugal office, who focus mainly on financial reporting and operations with our commercial presence growing also. In the UK our Group Finance is made up of Tax, Legal, Treasury and Commercial Finance/ business partnering partnering.

All of the teams play an instrumental role within the business, from developing best practice, involvement in strategic projects and telling our story with data! All Finance sub-teams work closely together to provide an excellent all round support network for the business, ensuring the long-term success of Farfetch!

The Role:

The newly created role will support all Tax-related topics in the Finance Department giving you a unique view on Farfetch’s business model and expansion plans. This role will have a special focus on supporting the tax team on accounting and R&D incentive claims available and you will be involved in every step of the application to R&D incentive benefits and other forms of government funding. You will also analyze accounting and tax information to assist in the development of recommendations and implementation plans for complex workstreams and decision-making areas. As you will be joining the tax team, on-the-job training, mentorship, learning and exposure to stakeholders are all on offer.

What you’ll do:

  • Directly contact with Accounts Payable and Accounting to Report team on ongoing questions;
  • Detect and implement Tax-related improvements (on systems, reporting tools, accounting procedures, etc.)
  • Control of fulfillment of CIT returns and supervise the Tax-related entries
  • Prepare workpapers, schedules, calculations and other items related to tax return filings, estimated tax payments, and extension payments
  • Assist with technical research supporting tax positions taken in tax filings, including drafting written memorandums
  • Contact tax agencies to obtain information, resolve issues, and reconcile notices
  • Keep up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law
  • Act as a contact point for R&D incentives consultants and attend to meetings to ascertain eligibility and scope of R&D incentives claim
  • Collate R&D supporting information
  • Be responsible for business partnering with our technical IT development and finance teams ensuring development costs are capitalised in-line with Company accounting policies
  • Be the owner of the intangible asset ‘master schedule’ ensuring on-going projects are regularly reviewed with our technical teams with amortisation being accurately recorded and captured
  • Review of projects on an annual basis for impairment through discussions with finance and technical teams
  • Assist both teams in setting up and maintaining a robust control framework ensuring capital expenditure projects are well controlled
  • Liaise with the auditors to co-ordinate the audit of development cost

Who you are:

  • Graduated in Accounting, Management or similar subject
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory
  • A professional with previous work experience in R&D incentives is a plus
  • An excellent team working attitude with ability to interact with different departments
  • Results driven mind-set and able to deal with stress
  • Dynamic and pro-active with high sense of responsibility and autonomy
  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office, mainly Excel
